From a new graduate in Science and Technology for the Environment at the University of Cagliari, Sardinia (Italy) I had the opportunity, thanks to the "Erasmus post-lauream" program, to be able to work as a trainee in the Invasive Alien Species Center (ISC) of Poreč (Croatia) for the duration of two and a half months, from late September to mid-December. Needless to say, I was warmly welcomed by all the employees of the Institute for Agriculture and Tourism, where the ISC is based, and above all by the team of the Center that provided me with all the necessary information [...]

During my two and half month traineeship  I had the opportunity to participate in one several projects dealing with invasive species. I was involved since the first moment in all the activities, both in the field, in the laboratory, in the writing of scientific articles, and in the general meetings. I thank you for giving me this opportunity and for making me feel, despite the distance, a bit like at home! During my stay in Croatia I volunteered in the project of invasive mapping of the species Ailanthus altissima in the Poreč area. I learned a lot and realised that natural diversity is the greatest treasure that we can leave behind for future generations! Nature holds the key to tackling many contemporary global issues, but only through conservation efforts and public awareness can we ensure that they don’t get lost forever. As a student of the Faculty of Agronomy, I was veryy happy to participate in the ISC project of mapping the invasive species of Tree Heaven - Ailanthus altissima in the city of Poreč. I believe that this project is of great importance for both biodiversity and local citizens who should be more involved in similar projects. This way, we educate citizens of the importance of nature and environment conservation.  Ivna Vranjković, Faculty of Agronomy, University of Zagreb
